There are two types of people who search for a camera operator in London. Productions looking to hire crew for a specific shoot. And clients who've decided they want a camera operator rather than a full production company, because the job doesn't seem to need one, or the budget doesn't stretch to one.
Both are valid starting points. Whether they're the right starting point depends on what you're actually making.

Camera operator London: hire for your production

We provide camera operators for hire across London and the UK. Our operators work across corporate productions, events, interviews, music videos, documentaries, and branded content - independently or alongside the wider We Stream team.

Our kit: Sony FX3. For productions requiring different systems, we hire from trusted rental houses and operate a wide range of cameras - tell us your technical requirements and we'll confirm what makes sense for the shoot.
We bring our own equipment or operate yours. If you need us to match an existing look, work within a broadcast delivery specification, or operate under a director of photography's direction, tell us upfront.

What we've operated on:
Interviews with Paul Pogba for Brut France, Baroness Patricia Scotland KC and Sir Charles Bowman for Off The Agenda, and Andrey Movchan in London - where we coordinated with a remote production team and matched the lighting and visual tone of footage filmed by a separate crew in another country, working from reference stills. Music videos and live performance sessions for Bambie Thug, including five songs, one of them at BBC Maida Vale Studios. Events at Claridge's, the Tower of London, Rothschild & Co's London headquarters, and trade shows across London, Lisbon, Berlin, Dubai, and Malta. Brand content for Tommy Hilfiger, Lancôme, and Sunday Riley.
The Paul Pogba shoot is worth mentioning specifically: the lighting setup the client had planned to provide wasn't there when we arrived. We adapted on set and still produced strong visuals. That's not an unusual situation. It happens regularly on productions of all sizes.
To hire crew: Send us your shoot date, location, expected hours, camera system preference, and what the production is. We'll confirm availability and provide a day rate.

For clients considering a camera operator over a full crew

If you've landed here thinking a camera operator is probably what you need - rather than a full production company - the following should help you work out whether that's right.

When a solo operator is the right call

Single-subject interviews filmed in a controlled space
One camera, one subject, a basic lighting setup and a clean audio feed. A well-prepared operator produces broadcast-quality footage from this setup. It's how we filmed the Andrey Movchan interview and how we handle executive interviews for clients who need talking-head content without the budget or logistics of a full crew.
Observational and documentary filming
Subjects behave differently when a large crew is present. For the Ukrainer documentary about chef Olia Hercules, we filmed at her home with a small crew and minimal equipment. Fewer people in the room meant the environment stayed natural, which produced better footage than a full production would have. When you're filming something real and unscripted, that usually holds true - smaller crew, better result.
Live performances and pub gigs
We filmed a live show for an emerging London band in a small venue under difficult mixed lighting. One operator, detailed colour grading in post, and the result was polished enough for social and promo use. A six-person crew at a pub gig would have been in the way.
Behind-the-scenes content
A smaller crew is less disruptive and produces more natural footage. We filmed BTS content for Parimatch during their Chelsea FC and Leicester City advertising campaign across multiple studio sets and stadiums - fast-moving, multi-location work where a minimal footprint was an asset.
Second camera on an existing production
If you have a lead operator and need a reliable second unit that can match the primary look without close supervision, we've operated in this capacity across multiple productions including a three-camera conference setup for Newsweek where a two-person crew covered every panel and a separate highlights package simultaneously.
Social and vertical content
Short-form content for Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn often works better with a lean setup. Speed and mobility matter more than a large lighting rig, and content that looks slightly produced can actually underperform content that looks natural. We filmed the Pelican Group's social video entirely on iPhone at the client's direction - knowing when not to over-produce is part of the job.

When a solo operator probably isn't enough

A single camera operator can handle a lot. There are situations where adding resource isn't an upsell - it's the difference between footage that's usable and footage that isn't.
Multi-subject shoots in a single day
If you need six interviews filmed, a product walkthrough, and office b-roll all in one day, a solo operator will either run out of time or compromise on setup between each. The Cytec shoot - seven complete videos in one day - worked because we brought a producer, two camera operators, a gaffer, and a sound engineer. Seven videos from one operator in one day is not realistic.
Events where you can't miss moments
A single camera means a single angle. If something happens - a keynote moment, an award presentation, a crowd reaction - and the operator is mid-setup on the other side of the room, it's gone. The Fast Growth Icons conference at Claridge's required simultaneous stage coverage, audience reactions, and networking moments across the venue. That's a multi-camera job.
Audio-critical content
A camera operator handling their own audio is managing two jobs at once. For content where clean, professional sound is non-negotiable - board-level interviews, client testimonials, broadcast-spec delivery - a dedicated sound engineer produces significantly better results. Poor audio makes technically good footage difficult to watch.
Lighting-dependent shoots
Some locations have workable natural light. Many don't. An operator managing their own lighting is, again, managing two jobs. For the AM Insights anniversary film - shot in a specific venue with limited natural light - having a dedicated gaffer meant the lighting was set properly whilst the operator focused on framing and performance.
High-value talent or limited windows
When you have one hour with a CEO, a celebrity, or a public figure, and the content needs to be right, a solo operator working without a producer to manage the room is taking a risk. The Tommy Hilfiger shoot with Shawn Mendes and Pamela Anderson required precise framing, fast adaptability, and a full team to manage the pace of a high-pressure environment. A solo operator at that shoot would have been overwhelmed.

This isn't a pitch for a larger commission. If a solo operator is right for your shoot, we'll tell you and price it accordingly. If it isn't, we'd rather tell you now than deliver footage that doesn't do what you needed it to do.

Camera operator London: post-production and delivery

A camera operator hired for crew work delivers footage to you or your post-production team. Organised, labelled, and formatted to your spec.

If you're a client without an editor, we can handle post-production as well - colour grade, cut, sound mix, and final delivery. That's a separate brief and a separate quote, but it's work we do across all our productions and something we can take on if you need it.

FAQ

Do you own cameras or hire them in?
We own Sony FX3s. For productions requiring different systems - larger sensor formats, specific broadcast specs, or matching an existing camera on your production - we hire from trusted rental houses and operate a wide range of cameras. Tell us what you need and we'll advise.
Can you operate a camera system we provide?
Yes, if we're familiar with it. Tell us the system upfront. If it's something we haven't operated before, we'll confirm honestly rather than arrive on your shoot day and learn on your time.
Do you work under a director or DOP?
Yes. We take direction from a DOP, director, or producer and work within their visual brief. If you have reference material or an existing visual style to match, send it before the shoot day.
Can you provide lighting as well as camera?
Yes. For interviews and controlled environments we can bring a basic lighting package. For larger productions with more complex lighting requirements, we bring a dedicated gaffer.
Is editing included?
Not as standard with camera operator hire. If you need post-production - cut, grade, sound, and delivery - that's a separate brief and we'll quote for it accordingly.
What's your day rate?
Camera operator day rates in London typically range from £600–£900 depending on equipment provided, shoot complexity, and hours required. Contact us with your project details and we'll give you a specific rate promptly.
What equipment do you bring as a camera operator?
We own Sony FX3 cameras. For shoots requiring different systems - RED, ARRI, Canon C-series, or specific broadcast specs - we hire from trusted rental houses and operate a wide range of cameras. We can also bring basic lighting for interviews and controlled environments. Tell us your technical requirements and we'll confirm what we can provide.
Which productions have you operated camera on?
